The Challenge
A characterful Coventry home with natural sandstone features, given a clean, bright white silicone render finish — backed by our 10-year workmanship warranty and the manufacturer’s product warranty.
In early June 2026, a homeowner in Coventry met our project manager to talk through rendering their home. The property is full of character, with natural red sandstone quoins and window sills, a solar panel array and a modern glazed extension, so the job was as much about careful detailing as it was about the render itself. The walls had a dull grey finish that made the house feel tired and did little to show off the sandstone.
The aim was a clean, bright and long-lasting finish that would sit neatly around the sandstone features, the black fascias, soffits and gutters and the white-framed windows, with scaffolding arranged around everything else going on at the property.
The Survey & Quotation
After the meeting, we sent a detailed written quotation covering wall preparation (removing loose and defective material and treating the surface), the application of a new silicone render finish, scaffolding and waste removal. The homeowner then had several months to plan, and the work was booked for October 2026.

10-Year Workmanship Warranty

Planning other exterior work at the same time? If you want new soffits, fascias or guttering, it is far more efficient to arrange it while the scaffolding is up. On this project the homeowner asked about exactly that, and we confirmed the scaffolding could stay in place for up to six weeks under the standard arrangement.
The Solution: A New Silicone Render System for the Whole Look of the House
We installed a new silicone render system across the house, removing loose and defective material and preparing the walls first, then working the finish neatly around the sandstone, windows, doors and roofline.
Keeping the character. Where a home has natural stone details, we render up to and around them rather than covering them over, so the character of the property stays visible against the new finish.
Choosing the colour. Colour is one of the first questions most homeowners ask, and the early booking gave this homeowner time to think about it. Our project manager brings a colour book on the first day of the work, the homeowner selects a few shades, and we arrange sample panels of approximately 20cm × 20cm so the colours can be compared in the real light at the property. There is also a few days after work begins to make the final decision, and in the meantime the digital JUB colour chart can be browsed online. Seeing a colour in person before you commit is one of the most useful steps in any render project — browse our render colour chart to start your shortlist.

The Process, Step by Step
Every AWP project follows the same sequence, so homeowners know exactly what is happening on site and when.
STEP 01
1
Meeting and quotation.
The homeowner met our project manager on site to discuss the project. A detailed written quotation followed, covering preparation, the new silicone render system, scaffolding and waste removal.
STEP 02
2
Booking and planning.
The work was booked for October. As the date approached, the homeowner asked about colour selection and about keeping the scaffolding up for other exterior work, and we answered both.
STEP 03
3
Scaffolding.
The scaffolding arrived on Monday 12 October, giving safe access to every elevation, including the two-storey sections.
STEP 04
4
Colour selection.
The colour book and 20cm × 20cm sample panels were used on site, so the final colour was judged against the real property.
STEP 05
5
Preparation and render.
Loose and defective material was removed and the wall surface treated and prepared, then the new silicone render finish was applied, with careful detailing around the sandstone, windows, doors and roofline.
STEP 06
6
Completion.
The finished render was checked and the site cleared, with all waste removed.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to render a house?
It depends on the size of the property, the number of elevations, the preparation needed and the weather. We confirm the expected programme when we send your quotation, and we keep you updated as the work progresses. See our silicone rendering service and external wall insulation service pages for more on the systems we install.
Can I replace soffits, fascias or guttering while the scaffolding is up?
Yes, and it is usually the most efficient time to do it. On this project the homeowner asked about having a roofer change the soffits and fascias while the scaffolding was in place. Under our standard arrangement the scaffolding can stay up for a maximum of six weeks, and if you need it for longer we will check with the scaffolding company in advance. Tell us at the quotation stage so we can plan around it.
How do I choose a render colour?
Browse the colour chart, shortlist a few shades, then compare physical samples on site. On this project our project manager brought a colour book on the first day and we arranged sample panels of about 20cm × 20cm, so the homeowner could judge each shade against the house in natural light. Start with our colour chart.
Can render be applied around natural stone features?
Yes. On this project we rendered up to and around the sandstone quoins and window sills, leaving them on show so the character of the house was kept. If you have stone, brick or timber details you want to keep, point them out at the survey so we can plan the detailing.
What warranty do you offer?
Our installation work is covered by a 10-year workmanship warranty: if a defect arises from our installation during that period, we’ll return and put it right at no additional cost. The products we use are also covered by their manufacturer’s own warranty. Full terms are provided in writing with your quote.
Is scaffolding and waste removal included?
On this project, yes. The quotation covered all preparation work, the new silicone render system, scaffolding and waste removal, so there was no need for the homeowner to arrange these separately. Always check what each quotation includes.
Can you render a house with solar panels?
Yes. Solar panels, gutters and other fittings are worked around carefully during rendering, and the scaffolding gives safe access to the whole elevation. If you are planning solar or roof work, tell us early so we can coordinate the order of works.
Do you cover Coventry and the Midlands?
Yes. We carry out external rendering, render removal and external wall insulation in Coventry and across the Midlands, including Leicestershire, Birmingham, Nottingham and Derby. See our rendering cost calculator or contact us for a free site survey and no-obligation quote.
