The Challenge
A tired patchwork of painted brickwork and weathered textured render, transformed with a full reinforced silicone render system in a cool-toned white — backed by our 10-year workmanship warranty and the manufacturer’s product warranty.
In July 2026, a homeowner in Coalville, Leicestershire contacted Advanced Wall Protection about wall rendering for the front and side of their semi-detached house. The walls were looking very tired: a patchwork of painted brickwork and ageing, weathered textured render that no longer looked its best.
The brief was clear. The homeowner wanted the old render dealt with and a clean, modern, low-maintenance finish in a cool-toned white. They had originally had a monocouche render in mind but were open to advice, so they emailed photos of the front and side elevations, along with a floor plan, so we could review the property and advise on the best silicone rendering system.
The Survey & Quotation
We reviewed the photos and floor plan and replied within two days. After a site survey, we issued a detailed written quotation for the front and side walls of the house, covering all preparation work, repairs where required and a complete reinforced silicone render system.

Why silicone rather than monocouche? We recommended silicone render because it is more flexible and breathable than monocouche, offers excellent weather resistance and long-term colour stability, is less prone to cracking and discolouration, and needs very little maintenance.
The Solution: Full Reinforced Silicone Render on the Front and Side Elevations
We installed a complete reinforced silicone render system across the front and side walls, giving the house a clean, modern, low-maintenance finish in a cool-toned white. The alkali-resistant mesh is embedded in the base coat to strengthen the system and significantly reduce the risk of future cracking, before the primer and final coloured silicone finish are applied.
Choosing the colour. The homeowner wanted a cool-toned white, so we shared our digital colour chart and asked them to shortlist two or three shades. They looked at Peace 01, Peace 70 and Peace 45, and we delivered physical samples so they could see the colours in person before deciding. They chose Peace 70. Seeing a colour in person before you commit is one of the most useful steps in any render project — browse our render colour chart to start your shortlist.

A clean, uniform silicone render finish in Peace 70.
SIDE · BEFORE
Weathered textured render above painted brickwork, with an uneven finish.
SIDE · AFTER

The Result
The house now has a clean, uniform silicone render finish in Peace 70 across the front and side elevations. A uniform finish. One clean Peace 70 finish across the front and side elevations.
Breathable. Allows moisture to escape rather than trapping it in the wall.
Crack-resistant. Alkali-resistant mesh in the base coat significantly reduces the risk of future cracking.
Self-cleaning. A water-repellent surface that sheds dirt and rain, keeping the finish looking newer for longer.
Long-lasting colour. Through-coloured render that won’t need repainting.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a silicone render system on a semi-detached house involve?
A full reinforced silicone render system starts with preparing and repairing the walls, followed by a base coat with alkali-resistant mesh embedded throughout, a primer and the coloured silicone finish. On this Coalville semi-detached house it was applied to the front and side walls. Use our rendering cost calculator for a quick guide to your own project, or request a free site survey and no-obligation quote.
What is the difference between monocouche and silicone render?
Monocouche is a through-coloured, cement-based render applied in a single coat. Silicone render is a thin-coat system applied over a reinforced base coat and finished with a water-repellent silicone coat. We usually recommend silicone render because it is more flexible and breathable, resists the weather well, is less prone to cracking and discolouration, and needs very little maintenance.
Can silicone render be applied over existing render?
Sometimes. If the existing render is sound, we may be able to prepare the surface and apply a reinforced base coat with alkali-resistant mesh over it, so the old render does not always need removing. We confirm this at the site survey. If the render is loose or damaged, it needs to come off first. See our render removal service.
How do I choose a render colour?
Start with the colour chart, shortlist two or three shades, then ask for physical samples so you can judge them in person against your windows, roof and neighbouring properties. On this project the homeowner wanted a cool-toned white and chose Peace 70 after seeing samples. Browse our colour chart to get started.
Do you remove the waste after rendering?
Yes. On this project all waste was removed from site as part of the work. Scaffolding was arranged for safe access during the work.
How far ahead do I need to book?
It varies through the year. On this project the homeowner confirmed in mid-August for a late-September start, and we offered to bring the date forward if a cancellation came up. Ask us for our current availability when you request your quote.
What warranty do you offer?
Our installation work is covered by a 10-year workmanship warranty: if a defect arises from our installation during that period, we’ll return and put it right at no additional cost. The products we use are also covered by their manufacturer’s own warranty. Full terms are provided in writing with your quote.
