What was done
50mm insulation boards were fixed to the external masonry walls of the extension. A basecoat was then applied over the insulation, followed by a white silicone render finish. The system was finished cleanly around the window, door frame, and drainage pipework.
Why silicone render over insulation
Silicone render is water-repellent and flexible, which makes it well suited as a finish coat on external wall insulation systems. It allows the wall to breathe while resisting rain penetration, and it holds its colour without needing regular repainting.
The 50mm insulation layer also reduces heat loss through the external walls, which can have a noticeable effect on a room that previously felt cold or difficult to heat.
